Using Clipmarks
Posted by Phil on September 12 2007, 12:28 » Uploaded 13/9/07 23:51

A poster asked if they could use the Clipmarks facility to paste clips straight into the message box of their post. The answer is yes, and in fact Clipmarks seems a good way to retain the formatting (and italics, bold, etc) and images of a relevant part of a web page without getting into the HTML.

For example, I've "clipped" the following straight from the BBC News site:

clipped from news.bbc.co.uk
Northern Rock branch
The Bank of England agrees to give emergency financial support to mortgage lenders Northern Rock.
Two suspected robbers are shot and killed during an alleged armed raid at an HSBC bank in Hampshire.
Tests show that the latest foot-and-mouth outbreak in Surrey is the same strain found in the area last month.

Of course, you need to know what you're doing, but once you get the hang of it, it's a very useful tool. You can also archive all your own clips on the Clipmarks site. For short clips, use the "clip to blog" feature, and paste the code generated straight into message box of your post. For longer clips (eg whole articles), use the "clip to email" and copy from the code in the email generated.

Clipmarks can be used as a Firefox or IE plug-in. See: http://clipmarks.com/
